Why Girls’ Education Is the Foundation for Change

If you want to change the world, invest in girls. This isn’t just something I believe, it’s something research consistently shows.

When girls are educated and empowered, everything shifts. Educated girls are more likely to complete their own education, to earn more, to have greater agency in their lives. But beyond individual outcomes, there’s a ripple effect. When girls believe in their potential, they raise children differently. They make different choices about their own lives. They build different kinds of communities. They challenge systems that were built to limit them.

This is why GLY Empowerment’s work in Nigeria matters so much. We’re not just teaching girls facts or skills we are fundamentally shifting how they see themselves and what they believe is possible for them. We are  creating a generation of girls who know their worth, understand their power, and refuse to accept less than they deserve. That generation will build something different. They will make different choices. They will raise their own daughters and sons with different values. And that’s how real, lasting change happens. It starts with girls who believe in themselves. It’s an investment that compounds over generations.

When you reach a girl, you don’t just change her life, you change the trajectory of her entire community’s future.
